Ingo Froböse, Ph.D. (Dr. phil., Habil.) is one of Germany’s most distinguished sports scientists and internationally recognized experts in preventive medicine, exercise physiology, healthy longevity, and lifestyle medicine. As Professor Emeritus of the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS), he dedicated more than three decades to advancing the scientific understanding of how physical activity, muscular health, nutrition, and recovery contribute to lifelong health and performance.
Professor Froböse completed his doctoral degree in 1986 and his habilitation in 1993 at the German Sport University Cologne before being appointed Professor for Prevention and Rehabilitation in Sport in 1995. From 1999 to 2003 he served as Vice President (Prorector) of the university. He subsequently directed the Center for Health through Sport and Exercise and later the Institute for Exercise Therapy, establishing both institutions among Germany’s leading academic centres for preventive health research and exercise medicine. Following his emeritation in 2023, he became Partner of the Cologne-based health promotion and prevention think tank Fischimwasser.
Prior to his academic career, Professor Froböse competed successfully as an elite track-and-field athlete. He was multiple-time German Vice Champion in the 100- and 200-metre sprint events, German University Champion, placed fourth in the 200 metres at the 1982 European Indoor Championships in Milan, and also competed in bobsleigh during his university years. His practical experience in elite sports has strongly influenced his translational research philosophy, connecting athletic performance with public health and preventive medicine.
Professor Froböse has authored numerous scientific publications and bestselling books focusing on exercise, metabolism, muscular health, nutrition, regeneration, and healthy longevity. Through his evidence-based “Froböse Formula,” he has become one of the most influential public advocates for preventive healthcare in the German-speaking world. His work emphasizes muscle health as the central organ of healthy ageing and promotes movement as one of the most effective interventions for preventing chronic disease.
Beyond academia, Professor Froböse serves as a long-standing scientific advisor to the German Bundestag on prevention and health policy, chairs the Scientific Advisory Board of TÜV Rheinland, and advises leading health insurance organizations and corporate health programmes. He is a highly sought-after keynote speaker and regularly contributes to national television, print media, podcasts, and digital health platforms, translating complex scientific evidence into practical recommendations for clinicians, policymakers, employers, and the general public.
